Decision details

Recovery from Alcohol and Drug Dependence Grant

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Health and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To seek Cabinet Member approval for the award of a total of £184,204 to five organisations from the Recovery from Alcohol and Drug Dependence Grant, noting the full break down of allocations as outlined in the financial considerations section.

Decision:

That the Cabinet Member:
Approves the award of funding to the five organisations outlined in this report, who meet the Recovery from Alcohol and Drug dependence Grant funding criteria, noting the full break down of allocations as outlined in the financial considerations section, to provide recovery activities in Derbyshire in 2022 and 2023.

Reasons for the decision:

The five organisations meet the criteria for the grant funding and the projects can provide recovery activities in Derbyshire in 2022 and 2023.

Alternative options considered:

Keep the project proposal length at one year – Until 2021, project proposals were requested to be one year in length. However, by requesting the project last for two years, of which the local authority would fund only the first year, it was felt this would provide some longer-term sustainability to the project. This would also allow for a new set of potentially less experienced but equally innovative projects and organisations to apply for funding in the subsequent year. We also felt this would reduce the risk of reliance on council funding to fund existing projects. We feel we have achieved this with the organisations recommended for funding in this report.
Do nothing –this was not an option on the basis we know that individuals in receipt of drug and alcohol treatment are more likely to recover from addiction if they can access supportive arrangements alongside treatment.
