Purpose:

To seek Cabinet approval to undertake a public consultation on the draft Derbyshire Public Library Strategy, which sets out the Council’s approach to providing a sustainable, comprehensive and efficient public library service, as required by the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964.

Decision:

RESOLVED to:

 

1)    Note the Draft Library Strategy for the period 2024 to 2029 (Appendix 2), including the proposed Vision and Operating Principles and propositions for core delivery and approve to undertake a public consultation exercise in relation to the draft Strategy, as required by the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964;

 

2)    Approve to notify the Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) of the draft Strategy and invite comments from the DCMS; and

 

3)    Approve the overall approach to finalising the Strategy following receipt and assessment of comments and note the proposed report to Cabinet early in 2025 which will set out the final proposals and implementation plan.
