Decision details

That the Cabinet Member:

a)     Notes the investigations carried out following the receipt of a petition requesting additional traffic calming measures on the A617 the Hill/Mansfield Road between Doe Lea and Glapwell and that there are already 3 VASs located along the A617.

b)  Notes that Derbyshire Constabulary will be informed of the local concerns with vehicle speeds along the A617 and requests that they consider some localised monitoring and enforcement of the current 30mph speed limit.

c)    Supports the installation of SIDs as a potential traffic calming measure and would encourage an application from the local Parish Council in this regard.

d)    Given the above, declines the request for the introduction of additional traffic calming measures on the A617 The Hill/Mansfield Road between Doe Lea and Glapwell at the current time.

As neither the A617 Mansfield Road nor the A617 The Hill meet the criteria given in the Speed Management Protocol for the installation of addition traffic calming measures.

The SIDS is a Highway Project between officers and the respective Parish and Town Councils across the County and therefore, Glapwell or Ault Hucknall Parish Council could be encouraged to further engage in this initiative.

The Police are the enforcement authority for Speed Limits as they remain a moving traffic offence and the responsibility of the Police to enforce.

As neither the A617 Mansfield Road nor the A617 The Hill meets the collision criteria given in the Speed Management Protocol document to justify the installation of additional traffic calming, the alternative measure would be for the petitioner to apply to Glapwell Parish Council and Ault Hucknall Parish Council for the installation of Speed Indicator Devices.
