Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Highways, Assets and Transport
Decision status: For Determination
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
To ask the
Cabinet Member to consider a petition requesting the reinstatement
of some previously removed historic bollards from the link footpath
(Twitchell) between Derby Road and Chapel Street, Melbourne. To
maintain the historic link that these bollards hold within the
Parish of Melbourne.
Following consideration of this report, the Cabinet Member is
asked to accept the request for the re-installation of the
replacement bollards within the ends of the existing footpath, but
in a position which does not hinder or obstruct the use of this
important link footpath for all highway users.
That the Cabinet Member:
Notes the petition requesting the reinstatement of the previously removed bollards.
Accepts the request for the re-installation of the bollards to the Link Footpath (Twitchell) through a localised arrangement between the Focus Group and the Council.
The Council accepts the historic attachment to this street furniture for the residents of Melbourne Parish and is willing to find an acceptable solution to their concerns.
Whilst the Council accepts the request for the replacement bollards to be installed, they are to be sited in an agreed position that does not cause a danger or obstruction to other highway users, as was previously identified as the concern for the former bollard’s removal.
Option 1: The Council provides no further highway measures for the link footpath (twitchel) between Chapel Street and Derby Road.
Option 2: The Council could consider a different type of barrier arrangement for the footpath as an alternative to the bollard’s installation.
