Petition – Request for the Installation of a Zebra Crossing, Station Road, Pilsley

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Highways, Assets and Transport

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To ask the Cabinet Member to consider a petition requesting the installation of a zebra crossing on Station Road, between Prospect Road and Church Street.
Following consideration of this report, the Cabinet Member is asked to decline the request to install a zebra crossing on Station Road in Pilsley.

Decision:

That the Cabinet Member:

1)   Notes the petition requesting the installation of a zebra crossing on Station Road, Pilsley;

2)   Does not accept the request for the installation of a zebra crossing on Station Road, Pilsley given the other road safety measures in place in the area and the ongoing work to recruit a new school crossing warden; and

3)   Notes that the lead petitioner be informed accordingly.

Reasons for the decision:

Station Road in Pilsley does not meet the strict PV² formula required to install a zebra crossing.

Alternative options considered:

Option 1: As Station Road does not meet the strict PV²formula and the layout difficulties that are experienced in siting a zebra crossing near to the Church Street junction, it is thought that waiting for a replacement crossing patrol warden to be appointed would be the best option. As of June 2024, a new warden was appointed but unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, they have submitted their resignation and the post will be re-advertised.
